To the last days of Summer...

So here we are, at the end of another glorious summer of beautiful warm days and beaches, long island cocktails and late night parties. It's not that I hate Winter, the whole brooding thing is cute for a while, but the harsh Winter in Cape Town makes it a little bit difficult. I dread the fact that I can't layer as well as the Europeans do. I dread the fact of always being sick. I dread the fact that I need at least 50 pairs of boots to not die of depression. I also hate the fact that I do not have a designer umbrella to protect me from the harsh water falling from the skies.

I will march forth in any case, I will make do with the outer wear and shoes that I have, I will see Winter as a challenge for me to put together some outfits which I have never thought of, and with hot chocolate, my fashion magazines and the beautiful music of Bon Iver I will make it through this season.

Don't set alight my Cotton Wool Dreams

I am afraid of heights, but somehow I overcame that. Every Sunday afternoon I go sit on the rooftop of the science building to look at the beautiful skies and mountain ranges. Bonding with yourself is such a beautiful experience, although I had to bring some of my friends with to play photographer for this Sunday session. :D

Let me dress you, lily.

I have been watching too much Modern Family. After vehemently denying that I was like Cameron from the show, after about gazillion people told me I act just like him, I had to concede when I saw that he dresses their adopted baby, Lily, in all these cute outfits adopting certain personas. I would TOTALLY do that. I always wanted a baby and turn them into the Anna Wintour of the playground. I want her (or him) to grow up to become a confident dresser which pursues their own style, walking to the march of their own fashion drum, but obviously allowing me to play my instrument as well. We can come up with beautiful outfits for each other to wear, and it should become part of our family traditions and of not only sharing the things we wear on the outside, but on the inside as well. So, I hope one day Lily, that you would allow me to dress you. XoXo

Fat kids like fashion too

I believe that the words anorexic skinny and fashion has been acrimonious synonyms for far too long, people snicker and jeer when a full figured person tries something when dressing up or being fashionforward, being told that it's 'inappropriate' or the famous 'try something less bold', with these fools usually not even being able to distinguish the difference between a McQueen creation and a rug filled with cat hair.

The Chunkies (yes, I am starting a revolution) have secured their rightful place in fashion with fearless boundary pushing, notice the success we had in recent years in terms of eliminating the apparent faux pas which states: "People with curves are not to wear horizontal stripes", I have seen a multitude of full-figured ladies wearing this trend with style and zest.

On a serious note, as much as I love fashion, it seems that no matter how stylish and fashion forward you are, the public perception is that when your not 6 foot tall and your collarbones are not showing, you cannot truly embody the essence of fashion.

Fashion should be all-inclusive, we need no invitation for creative expression, as Lady Gaga put it (I know, so cliche) " Why have we decided that one person's opinion matters more than anyone else's?". If ever anyone came up with a reasonable, intellectual and justifiable answer to that question, I will hang up my Mr Price chinos and will never pursue fashion again. Until then, FAT KIDS WILL KEEP ON CONQUERING FASHION!!!
