The Hunger Games
After 5 years of slaving away at University, dreaming of the day when you are actually earning your own money and can buy the clothes you want to wear and start saving up money for that designer piece which will add so much opulence to your wardrobe, it has finally happened. The day I have been waiting for: My very first job.
Now, here is an observation I picked up when I was in this period of transition. Us humans, we are always left wanting more.We always want things which we do not have, and once we have it we always look towards the bigger, the better and the shinier. I left the beautiful Mother City behind, a place where I first fell in love and where I had most of my success as a human, to explore the new land of the Zulu and the Indian Ocean: Durban. My experiences this far, summarized:
1. Working in a professional environment is hard: The business world is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
2. Durban has a very interesting sense of style, a little bit stuck in the 90's with an eclectic mix of traditional and the retro, but it has not quite matured as well and the fashion scene in Cape Town.
3. Durban's Winter is the kindest ever.
4. The social life in Durban is very laid-back and relaxed, maybe sometimes too relaxed.
5. My style and sense of fashion has slowly deteriorated in the 5 months I have been here, and I run the risk of being just another gay person with not fashion sense.
6. I will be the one to call it out: Top Man and Zara Man only cater for the the famished boys. :(
7. Despite everything, Durban's beauty amazes me and I may just fall in love with the city.
Till next time.
PS: I am on this mission to become a skinny sexy person by the end of December.
PSS: *Wipes the chocolate off my mouth*.
Adios!
Winter Blues
Cold, windy, rainy, and a perfect day to test my layering skills after I have dressed horrendously in sweatpants and Vans for the past few days. It was interesting to think that the the "comfortable" clothes would make me feel so uncomfortable. I think my comfort level is not related to the the the informality the of my clothes, but rather how these garments make me feel.
My annual seasonal depression has not set in so far, and I have been quite enjoying Winter: I have had some good quality coffee, some great camaraderie over good food with friends, and today my layering skills, which is horrible, came together quite nicely. *Does the fashion dougie*.
I am wearing:
Light Blue Skinny turn-ups - Mr Price.
Gingham Blazer - Thrift Store
Midnight patent and felt brogues - Mr Price
Purple Socks - Markham
Blue Knitted Jersey - Thrift Store
Rounded Knitted Blue Snood - Markham

To the last days of Summer...
So here we are, at the end of another glorious summer of beautiful warm days and beaches, long island cocktails and late night parties. It's not that I hate Winter, the whole brooding thing is cute for a while, but the harsh Winter in Cape Town makes it a little bit difficult. I dread the fact that I can't layer as well as the Europeans do. I dread the fact of always being sick. I dread the fact that I need at least 50 pairs of boots to not die of depression. I also hate the fact that I do not have a designer umbrella to protect me from the harsh water falling from the skies.
I will march forth in any case, I will make do with the outer wear and shoes that I have, I will see Winter as a challenge for me to put together some outfits which I have never thought of, and with hot chocolate, my fashion magazines and the beautiful music of Bon Iver I will make it through this season.

BACK IN ACTION SOON!
I apologise for the unplanned hiatus. I will be blogging with a vengeance these coming weeks and hopefully have a post up every week.
Crystalline
The title refers to a track from Bjork's new album, Biophillia. Very interesting album and o-so inspirational! My obsession for this month would definitely be these gorgeous precious stone jewelry (the semi-precious kind is a cool and cheaper alternative at Mr Price)is sooo beautiful and is so reflective. Any outfit for summer would look so beautiful with these as it's so earthy and not as "heavy" as gold or silver. :)
Mondo Madness
Right now I am so obsessed with project runway, finished watching Season 8 and Mondo Guerra was by far my favourite designer of that season. His design aesthetic was really unique and quirky. He was also so inpsirational, as he came out with his HIV+ status on the show after keeping it a secret for 10 years.
Fashion and people in fashion does not always have to be so one dimensional and all about clothes. GO MONDO!

Letter to Self...
You were born through a mother and father who are the earthly manifestations of your start. You are a journeyman through this vortex called life, and although the road was not always easy, everything you did, both good and bad, where set upon your path to make you stronger. The trajectory of your life has not been one of superstardom and illustrious success, but you have stayed true to yourself. Now the time has come to further challenge yourself, to become all you can be, it would be foolish to deny the cries of destiny, the time has come to be great.
